Climb The Wind

Summary: Logan and Scott are held prisoner.  The descent of the hero, and his redemption. c. 83,000 words

Warning:
This is dark, although I wouldn’t call it, in the end, a tragedy.  Nonetheless, reader discretion is recommended.  There's a lot of brutal nastiness:  the horrible things that people do to each other in war.  The story's inspiration is – loosely – the Iliad.  Hey, if you’re going to cop a theme, you may as well cop Homer.

X-Files:  Some reference is made to the X-Files mytharc, but you don't need to watch the show to read it.

X-DAY 2001, Best Novel; CBFFA 2002, Best Serious, Best Adult; CBFFA 2003, Fanfic Hall of Fame

Notes:  In highly traumatic combat situations, the ties between men exceed the term ‘friendship’ by modern usage.  I direct readers to Jonathan Shay’s splendid Achilles in Vietnam: Combat Trauma and the Undoing of Character.  He says, "Modern American English makes soldiers' love for special comrades into a problem, because the word love evokes sexual and romantic associations.  But friendship seems too bland for the passion of care that arises between soldiers in combat" (40).  This is a love story; it isn't a sex story.

Grey Bard:  "From start to finish ... terrifying and pulse pounding, heartbreaking and oddly triumphant."
Andariel: "CtW literally broke my heart, tackling the tough issues."
